The WSOP 2018 Main Event Thread

Don’t care what anyone else says, I love Helmuth. His rants are just great and make me feel better about my own

He’s going to lose his mind when he sees his QQ was flat-called by KJ.

Just a random thought:

I heard earlier that Ryan Reiss busted the Main Event. I kind of feel bad for him. He hasn’t had any major results in a while that I know of.

Hellmuth ranting right now lol!

…“You weren’t going to win with A4. I had A9 anyways.”

Just tuning into tonight’s coverage of the WSOP.

Hellmuth has busted the Main Event. A9 vs AK and a 9 on the river finished Hellmuth.

He’s going to go bonkers. Can you believe that river? More importantly, can you believe the call with A9s? Insanely bad call knowing Hellmuth’s likely range, IMO. This guy likes any A, including A8o. Wonder where he’s been practicing  You don’t need to be good to enter the Main Event - anyone with $10K can take a shot.

Added: I’m amazed at his exit interview - he was classy about it, kind of.

He handed it well. I still can’t believe that river.

I was trying to think of his possible shoving range facing an EP open and a 3-bet. Knowing how much value he places on his tournament life, I’d be surprised if his range there was anything worse than AK. I’d think QQ, KK and AK and he would either call or shove AA. He had ~16BB behind and only 1 invested pre-shove. I’d be shocked if his shoving range was any wider than what I said. Given that, A9s had ~28.5% equity. Yipes - I guess its actually a close one if playing cash. Still shocked he made the call in a tournament like this one.

It will be a late night at The Rio. 78 players away from the money and they’ve announced that they will play until they are in the money tonight.

Shame it’s not on TV or even being streamed.

Really glad I’m not paying for PokerGo. Subscribers are not happy. Very poor planning broadcasting wise to not cover the money bubble.

According to reports players have just made the money in the Main Event.

The player who busted on the bubble will receive a free buy in to next year’s Main Event.

I agree totally. Even the ESPN coverage has been kind of weak, IMO. When they go to other tables, they don’t have chipstacks visible and sometimes we don’t even see the all-in cards or board until the very end. Compared to WPT produced events, this one seems lacking in some regards. I’m still enjoying it but you are right that they are missing quite a bit.

Coverage about to begin on ESPN.

According to my TV guide the WSOP is suppose to be on ESPN right now but it’s not.

-Marc

Just found out it starts at 2:30pm Eastern time though the TV guide says 2:00.

Interesting hand between Ivey and Day.

Ivey A5
Day AK

Ivey had an Ace to Five draw on the flop. 10 comes on the turn and Day bets 75k. Ivey thinks about it for a minute or two but ends up folding.

3 1/2 hours of televised play is about 15 hands with Damian Salas on the table - lol. You could get another game going just waiting for him to make decisions. He may be the last straw before a shot-clock is implemented.

@Marc978 - I really thought Ivey was going to check-raise that turn with the wheel draw. He really is an intimidating presence on the table. Ugh, I hate having to compliment someone who has all the money he needs and still resorts to edge-sorting to cheat casinos out of money.

According to reports Ivey has busted the Main Event. He bluffed all in and got called and lost.

Wouldn’t mind seeing Cliff Josephy make the final table. He’s a great player.
