House Rules rule!

In another thread in the Forums today, players are asking questions about how RP calculates the pot for betting purposes. The answer will ALWAYS be that the House’s Rules control every aspect of the games.

Especially in “home games,” that can lead to some odd situations. If the rule is known to the players, then all is fair. I once played in a home game where the Diamond 3 was always wild and I ended up losing with a full house to trip 2s plus the Diamond 3 for quads. I also know I’ve written about a game where we declared our direction verbally (High, Low, or Both) in High-Low games in a club. That had a big impact on our play.

Have you ever played in a game with unusual house rules? If so, what were they and how did they influence your play? Did they change your strategy in any important ways?
