CONTEST - How skilled do you consider yourself to be?

I would go with C senile, as long as a straight still beats a flush. I’m good.

Nothing more than a C-Amateur for me.

I can generally keep my bankroll growing here, but I know there are certain players and styles of play that I don’t have a good answer for. And when I start losing a bunch, I often play even worse (tilt). I cannot consistently finish well in tourneys here at all.

At my home game there are at least 3 of the other 9 players I know are better than me and a few I consider comparable. That doesn’t even take into consideration playing for real money against “regulars” at a casino or online.

To me that is nothing more than a rank amateur.

Hi Jan,

Thanks for that. I chose “beginning” because lately I’m a little frustrated with my play. I’m usually quite disciplined and consistent and win more chips than I lose. But I’ve been catching myself occasionally mirroring players that play “very poorly” (some even successfully). So I end up playing not as tight as normal, and even going into tilt mode here and there. I truly know better, and I know I’m better than that. I just need to get back on track…

Cheers!

B seasoned…but with plenty still left to learn

I think I am between Amateur and Seasoned. I can hold my own and best some better players. It depends on the cards.
Even all in Aces can lose. I find it best to bet them big, see who answers, see what is flopped, and think about the cards on the table…
.
Could they get a flush???
Can they make a straight???
Could someone have a pair and have made trips???

I have beaten ALL IN on Paired Aces before. Tripped Them Up!!! I have made flushes on Ace Pairs.

Also, NEVER BET ACE KING BIG!!! Many players do that and LOSE HUGE!!!

With those rules in mind, I have a GREAT SHOT At Making the next level.happen.

One more rule… Never FOLD Pre-flop… You might kick someone’s A@@ with trips.

The way I win??? Not folding to all ins sometimes. The amount of callers is what I look at. That many players might have an Ace King (or whatever) Making my off number cards MORE VALUABLE to my win.

Ace King holders are the WORSE sometimes. AND the lack of respect some high rank players show??? IS BAD!!! It’s like they are children throwing a temper tantrums by going ALL IN.

The NUMBER ONE RULE??? SHOW RESPECT!!!

You and me both! I have resolutions starting with tomorrow! Good luck to us and see you soon.

Beginner.
Most I’ve made is 20+ k in one of the low stakes games but as I’ve lost over half of that joining the high stakes

I am an amateur. I get lucky sometimes. I enjoy playing.

Amateur. I can hold my own, but need more playing time.

For me it seems to depend on what day it is.
Last Friday and Saturday I felt like a D but today I feel like an A.

I think I am a better player than my wins and losses show. A problem I have when playing is wanting to play itermediate hands as opposed to waiting for strong hands to be in on the action. I have found playing six or even three (3) player games speeds up the action and allow me to wait for what i consider quality hands. the 3 hand games also helps prepare for the closing hands in a larger table when you make it to the final money places.

Amateur at best. The game is very complicated.

Definitely Amateur here…not into all the strategies etc. Just like to play and have a chat with friends…and hopefully win a few!

Somewhere between amateur and seasoned, I feel like I have an edge on a lot of players at my normal stake level.

I would say beginning / amateur / novice best describes my skill level.
Can’t really say amateur because some of the people that have rated themselves as amateur, I know are very skilled and could probably hold there own at a money table.
I try to use the moto, “Patience, Discipline, Luck. Not saying I display anyone of those traits at times, but I try lol. Can’t win without at least a little luck.
Have fun, see you at the tables.

Seasoned would probably describe my play. Checking my statistics, I’ve played 120,000 hands and according to the page win 98 percent of the showdown pots I’m in. I find myself frustrated at high bidding mucker players and often spend chips to expose bluffers. Even if it causes someone else at the table to benefit. Silly, but all that bluffing every hand ruins the beauty of play at a table to me. I am a recent (2 yr) learner of poker, often playing out low cost hands to just watch other players and marking players who bluff continually. The note ap available lets me mark them for later. I lose a lot, have purchased lots of chips, won a few large pots. I enjoy playing and visiting with friendly folks at the table.

Although I am ranked in top 1,000 on Replay, I still consider myself an amateur. This is definitely not the same as live games with actual cash on the table. I’m unable to confidently deal with super aggressive bettors and need to improve my bluffs. I think my best strength is avoiding large losses by being to fold hands that a lot of beginners will hold to the bitter end.

I am an amateur. I still have a lot to learn.

XZ - I support your notion as I’ve seen pocket Aces loses about 80-90% of the time, but statistically it’s the best hand you can wish for!!! Irrespective how you play them the chances of you losing are scary online, but in real cash poker the OPPOSITE is true and you’ll win more with them than losing.
With online poker my belief is to ALL IN it and hopefully that will scare off the “wannabe luck pushers”.
I’ve also seen a pocket pair converting into TRIPS on the flop lose and the same “trick” applies with online - YOU’LL LOSE with it, but not in real cash poker!
I enjoy online and will continue with it, but it is a heck of a frustration to deal with this REALITY!
