It’s clear that over time, many Replay regs have kind of “learned from each other” or otherwise developed some common playing tendencies.
One really odd one I have noticed is leading out for 1bb in tournaments. I have seen many Top 1000 players do this in MTTs. Generally, from my data so far, they do it with either top pair or a decent draw.
Of course this is really poor strategy - if you have top pair you want to extract value and deny equity to hands you are currently beating. Betting 1bb accomplishes neither.
The one benefit I can see is that you can bait aggressive players like myself into raising with worse, then call down. That happened to me a few times before I caught on the there really is a robust population here who lead 1bb with fairly strong hands. But it’s very easy to adjust to. Now I just call them with strong draws or setmining pairs, fold when I miss and print money when I hit.
My genuine question: where did this practice come from? What is the reasoning?
I’m 100% certain it is bad strategy, but also 100% curious what the thought process is here.
