There are a lot of songs that people connect to a certain artist/singer/writer But most of these smash hits were done before! Some of them are changed and some are almost identical. But it is worth knowing who originally did these songs for credit sake.

Mark James

Even though Cobain literally says, “That was a David Bowie song” at the end of this cover, there are still people who are surprised that this wasn’t a Nirvana original:

And while we’re on the topic of Nirvana unplugged covers:
One of the iconic songs that was sung by K.D. Lang, who happens to have the HUGE advantage of female range:
Was actually written and first performed in 1962 by Roy Orbison, whose own range of four octaves is huge–you’ll seldom hear this in a karaoke bar because the notes are just too hard for most men to hit:
But, WAIT, THERE’S MORE! Orbison liked Don McLean’s 1980 version so well, he copied it in his later live performances! (I was lucky enough to hear Orbison sing this live in the late 1980s in Hampton Beach, NH.) Also, notice McLean never goes into falsetto the way Orbison did. Enjoy:
