Most of you don’t know me all that well but I have a history I would like to share. Relevant to today’s Holliday. When my grandparents were alive our family would gather yearly, the last big event was in the 80s, we had a 100-year family reunion, there were 475 people present, my family is so big, most I don’t even know, I have a written family history here in the archives of our local historical museum, and some in others. My family settled here in Washington in the Mt Baker basin and were mercantile business owners circa 1840, but long before that our story began, I am a descendant of William Bradford, he was one of the most influential figures in the early history of America.
Here is a brief summary of his story:
William Bradford was born in 1590 in England, where he became a member of a Puritan sect that wanted to separate from the Church of England. He and his fellow Separatists faced persecution from the king, so they fled to the Netherlands in 1608. There, they lived for more than a decade, but they felt that their children were losing their English identity and culture. They decided to emigrate to America, where they could practice their religion freely and preserve their heritage.
In 1620, Bradford and his wife Dorothy joined a group of 102 passengers, including other Separatists and non-Separatists, on board the Mayflower, a ship that sailed from England to the New World. During the voyage, Dorothy fell overboard and drowned. Bradford was heartbroken, but he continued to lead his people with courage and faith. He was one of the signers of the Mayflower Compact, a document that established a civil government for the new colony based on the consent of the governed.
The Mayflower landed in present-day Massachusetts, far from their intended destination in Virginia. The Pilgrims, as they came to be known, faced a harsh winter, with many dying from disease and starvation. Bradford helped to negotiate a peace treaty with the local Native Americans, who taught the Pilgrims how to plant corn and other crops. In 1621, Bradford became the second governor of Plymouth Colony, after the first governor, John Carver, died. He was re-elected 30 times, and served for more than 30 years. He was a wise and fair leader, who promoted religious tolerance, trade, and self-government.
Bradford also wrote a journal of the history of Plymouth Colony, called Of Plymouth Plantation. It is one of the most important sources of information about the Pilgrims and their experiences in America. It shows Bradford’s deep faith in God, his gratitude for His providence, and his hope for the future of his people. Bradford died in 1657, leaving behind a legacy of courage, perseverance, and devotion. He is considered one of the founding fathers of America.
I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving from my family to yours.

In the dust-choked town of Replay, where tumbleweeds rolled like silent witnesses to countless showdowns, the Dream Weaver poker league was the heartbeat of the community. Every month, under the flickering glow of the swinging saloon sign, four legendary poker teams clashed in a high-stakes battle for glory and gold: the Pirates, the Cons, the Renegades, and the Outlaws.

The saloon, known as the “Whiskey Wagon,” was a haven for gamblers and dreamers alike. Its weathered wooden walls echoed with laughter, curses, and the rhythmic shuffle of cards. The poker tables were worn smooth from years of intense play, each carrying the scars of countless hands and bluffs.

The Pirates, led by the cunning Captain @Despina11, were a motley crew of seafaring gamblers. Dressed for battle in sea-stained clothes and adorned with trinkets plundered from distant shores, they brought an air of unpredictability to the table. @StraightStyle himself, with a beard as black as midnight and eyes that gleamed like the ocean under a stormy sky, was a force to be reckoned with.

The Cons, led by the silver-tongued Snake Oil @SharonSmarty, were masters of deception and sleight of hand. Dressed in immaculate suits that concealed their cunning, they blended into the shadows, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Sharons’s charming smile and quick wit could disarm even the most vigilant opponent.

The Renegades, a group of outcasts and rebels, were led by the enigmatic @Larry_Laffer. With a gaze that could pierce the toughest hide, he commanded a team of misfits, each with their own story of defiance. The Renegades played by their own rules, and no one could predict their next move.

The Outlaws, under the leadership of the Gunslinger @Julie1963 and @RavenL, were a formidable force. Dressed in dusty leather and donning wide-brimmed hats, they exuded a sense of rugged determination. Raven’s piercing eyes, hardened by years of living on the edge, revealed a woman who had seen it all and wasn’t afraid to face it again.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the desert town, the tension in the Whiskey Wagon reached a boiling point. The final week of the Dream Weaver poker league was about to begin. Gold coins clinked, and the air was thick with anticipation.

Good luck to all the teams!
