Can RP be considered a form of meditation?

When the moonlight shines through the slits of your blinds and the crickets are playing their midnight song.

Late night poker opens your mind and you realize this is where you belong.

The love of self and the love of one another with every polite nice hand

The love of knowledge and the love of life as you slip into dreamland.

Somehow a new awareness surfaces as you linger in-between.

Only to be rudely awakened by the buzzer on the screen

It is your turn as the time quickly slips away.

Missed your turn again and this time you had Broadway!

You stare at the screen like a newborn baby

Could this be meditation? Maybe.

I’m glad you enjoyed it all!

It’s one of those songs that can be played over and over again.

I like to slow down the speed of the song to really hear what’s going on.

Thank you for the kind words!

Can RP be considered a form of meditation?

Absolutely not. It’s concentration not meditation

100% of the time concentration?

If you’re honest, then you must agree the majority of players have fallen asleep at one point or another playing on RP.

Even on the other thread, the greatest of all time poker player on RP, most likely has fallen asleep during a late night poker game!

How can one even be in the running for that honor when they are asleep!

It’s a real eye opener to say the least.

In fact, the ones in the running for that honor, most likely are the ones that fell asleep the most since they need to put in the hours to even qualify.

That’s why I stated in a previous post that one must be an insomniac to be even considered for the greatest of all time honor.

If you start seeing ripples forming on the felt after every rotation and a tunnel forming in your mind as a result, you may be experiencing RP’s other side!

Especially if you see Got_A_Light and all the other players that are no longer…

If you do see the Got_A_Light, give him my regards! LOL

You might have already seen him. LOL

I’m laughing because it opens a whole new can of worms about living multiple lives at the same time.

Not just “solely” a meditative question anymore! LOL

Thanks for your contrasting viewpoint.

BTW, experiencing the contrast could very well be the meaning of life

That’s why we’re here for the experiences!

The baby staring at the screen without an ego getting in the way

Falling into a meditative state, you need stillness, you need silence, you need to ignore the ego

You need to be aware of the silence in between the words

If you concentrate on this or concentrate on a game of RP, ask yourself if it really matters.

It may be just concentration that eventually sets in motion a form of the meditative state.

That would explain the rampant awakenings and realizations of timed out hands and missed tournaments

The worst time to play poker is when you’re tired, angry, lack of concentration and certainly no patience.

Poker is not a game where you fall asleep while playing.

Not only are you competing against other players in RP Marathons, you are also battling your own Delta brain waves.

When you hear poker players exclaim, " You got to have heart! "

We all know what the general meaning is but another meaning could be at the highest level of brain activity

Gamma brain waves are the highest level like being " in the zone "

They say there is a way to boost your brain waves to Gamma by connecting your brain to your heart.

Heart-Brain Communication

Traditionally, the study of communication pathways between the head and heart has been approached from a rather one-sided perspective, with scientists focusing primarily on the heart’s responses to the brain’s commands. We have learned, however, that communication between the heart and brain actually is a dynamic, ongoing, two-way dialogue, with each organ continuously influencing the other’s function. Research has shown that the heart communicates to the brain in four major ways: neurologically (through the transmission of nerve impulses), biochemically (via hormones and neurotransmitters), biophysically (through pressure waves) and energetically (through electromagnetic field interactions). Communication along all these conduits significantly affects the brain’s activity. Moreover, our research shows that messages the heart sends to the brain also can affect performance.

In the forms of meditation I know, the intent is to quiet the logical mind so we may hear the more subtle underlying whispers. This is also true of many shamanic traditions and practices.

Since poker dwells within the realm of logic, it and meditation are in direct opposition.

The conceptual self, some call it the ego, is built up throughout life.

The idea of me and who I am

There is in many a full belief that conceptual self is who they are and nothing more.

The key here is that in meditation, the moment there is recognition we are more than just the ego.

It’s very simple to do yet people go throughout life unaware of their true nature which is consciousness.

Consciousness is all connected basically.

So the conceptual self is actually not really there.

Ghostlike and an illusion

All you have to do to realize this which so many do not know…

Be still is key

You will eventually notice your ego telling you something like it always does

So you observe the words in silence and stillness.

The very moment there is recognition of this is when we realize our true nature

We are more than the conceptual self!

In meditation, as you observe the thoughts, the higher consciousness will eliminate the ego in time.

Then it gets quiet.

Basically, that’s how real meditation works

The point about poker being a form of meditation is still in question let’s say.
