Avoid people with gold teeth who want to play cards - George Carlin

What is the meaning behind this quote?

We all know that crushers don’t really care who they are up against. So why should they make an exception if someone with a gold teeth wants to play cards with them?

It’s a sign of wealth.

It started in the 1800’s when slaves were wealthy enough to buy their freedom they bought a gold tooth. Then it spread to musicians, gangsters and gambling men.

The thought is if someone has a good tooth they have enough money to buy and sell you so beware.
